In a tool holder with a tapered shank and a retaining bolt, a data carrier, in particular a data carrier which can be actuated in a non-contacting manner for the output and entry of data, is arranged on the rear end face of the retaining bolt. This dispenses with the need for angular positioning of the tool holder, and the risk of damage is reduced to a minimum.
