PURPOSE:To obtain an ink jet recording material excellent in ink receptivity and particularly in density and clearness of recorded images, by providing a humectant in a ink-receiving layer and/or on the surface of th layer, in a recording material comprising a base and the ink-receiving layer provided thereon. CONSTITUTION:A recording material comprises a humectant in an ink-receiving layer thereof and/or on the surface of the layer. The ink-receiving layer is a non-porous part for receiving and holding an ink on the face side of the recording material, and is formed of a hydrophilic resin according to performances required of the recording material (ink absorptivity, surface properties, strength of layer, etc.). The humectant has excellent moisture adsorptivity, enhances the adsorptivity of the ink-receiving layer, and prevents the water in the layer from escaping. Therefore, the humectant is a substance superior to the hydrophilic resin (which is a main constituent of the ink-receiving layer) in hydroscopicity and moisture retention. It is preferable that the amount of the humectant is 0.1-50wt% based on the amount of the ink-receiving layer. The thickness of the ink-receiving layer, which is provided on a base, is usually 1-200mum. |
