Stackable chairs 50 are adapted to be joined together in rows by six connection members secured to each chair frame 51 and mounted three on each side of the chair, two connection members being secured to each rear leg 62, 63 one above and one below. The connection of the rear leg to its associated side rail 70, 71 and a third connection member 85 or 86 being secured to a forward portion of each bottom rail 60, 61. The connection members on the rear legs 62, 63 of the chair may comprise co-operating projections 103, 104 and openings 105, 106, Fig. 16, formed in stiffening members 66 and 67 respectively, and connection members 85, 86, Fig. 22, on the bottom rails 60, 61 may comprise male and female members which snap-lock together. Alternatively the stiffening members 66, 67 may be formed with bent fastening members 144-147, Fig. 38, which snap-lock together and connection members 150, 151, Fig. 41, on the bottom rails 60, 61 formed with co-operating projections and recesses. The connection members 85, 86 and 150, 151 form glides which, when the chairs are stacked, rest upon one another. Glides 87, 88 may also be secured to the rear of the bottom rails 60, 61. The seat and back, which are of plywood or fibre glass, may be an integral unit or formed in separate parts 52, 53. The seat 52 is attached to the frame members 70, Fig. 30, by inserting a rolled edge 81 into a bracket 80 welded to the frame member 70 and crimping the bracket to encircle the rolled edge 81. Alternatively, Fig. 32, the edge of the seat or back may be welded to a bracket 243 or attached by a screw 233 or by rivet 236 to a bracket 234, or by a hook and groove to a bracket 237. The frame members may be made from metal, wood, reinforced plastics. or glass fibre rods.
