PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of the numerical value of an odometer by providing an EEPROM additionally and writing only the high-order digits of run distance in respective address as data, and displaying the low-order digits by utilizing the addresses themselves. CONSTITUTION:The odometer on a vehicle counts a signal from a run distance sensor which generates a signal regarding the number of rotation of a shaft, etc., and then displays integral run distance. In this case, the output pulse signal of the run distance sensor is inputted to a CPU to count the number of pulses, and writing to the EEPROM and display output of a display device are performed at specific intervals of distance. Then when the high-order digits (high-order four digits when six digits, i.e. 100km) of the integral run distance are written in respective addresses 00-99 of the EEPROM and rewriting is performed at every 100km, that there are only two kinds of data in the respective addresses in principle. Then, the data in the addresses, i.e. integral run distance consisting of the high-order four digits and two digits of their addresses is displayed on the display device. Therefore, the update of the EEPROM is reduced by the utilization of the addresses and the data is discriminated securely.
