PURPOSE:To prevent multifeeding of the second and following paper sheets by providing the second driving means capable of interlocking and driving the second paper feed roller and a separating roller individually. CONSTITUTION:When the uppermost paper sheet S1 is fed out by the first paper feed roller 1 and passed between the second paper feed roller 2 and a separating roller 3 to reach a pair of transport rollers 4, the paper sheet is fed toward an apparatus body by the transport force of the paired transport rollers 4. The turning force of a shaft 2a is transmitted to a shaft 3a by a belt 23 of the second driving system B, so that the separating roller 3 is rotated in the direction of an arrow c. At this time, the peripheral speed of the separating roller 3 is lower than that of the separating roller driven by the first driving system, so that burden put on the second paper feed roller is lessened. Accordingly, multifeeding of paper sheets S2 can be checked by moderate separating force.
