PURPOSE:To simplify a signal processing, by recording a pilot signal at one of (n) pieces of tracks with an information signal, and performing a tracking control with a reproducing pilot signal component obtained from the track. CONSTITUTION:Pilot signals f1 and f2 from a generator 43 are supplied to a gate 104 through a switch 103, and based on the data of a clock pulse CLK counted 106 with the edge of a rectangular waveform signal 60PG of 60Hz, it is gated 104 with a timing corresponding to an area X1 on the track, and through a switch 110, the f1 and the f2 are supplied alternately to heads HB and HE, then being recorded at the area X1. Meanwhile, reproducing outputs from heads HA and HC, and HD and HF are introduced to a tracking signal processing circuit 45, then the f1 and the f2 are separated at the circuit, and a tracking error signal ATF is derived, and through a capstan control circuit, the tracking control is performed.
