A device for position measurement on telescopic booms, e.g. mobile cranes, contains on each inner telescopic part (12, 14), which is guided in an outer telescopic part (10 and 12, respectively), a digital, scannable linear scale in the form of a metal strip (32) having cutouts. A scanning head (20 and 22, respectively) for scanning the linear scale is mounted on the end of the outer telescopic part (10 and 12, respectively) from which the inner telescopic part (12 and 14, respectively) can be pushed out. <IMAGE>
