The invention relates to an electrical machine having a stator and having a rotor, one of which forms the closed-circuit armature and the other has field magnets. The field magnets are arranged in such a manner that one pole of each field magnet faces the armature and the polarity of the poles which face the armature is the same for all the field magnets. The electrical machine has a control device for the armature current, which control device changes the direction of the armature current before it enters and leaves the effective region of the poles. This results in a particularly improved efficiency, especially at relatively high rotation speeds. <IMAGE>
