EXAMPLE:2,3-Dihydro-2,3,5-trimethyl-6-(2-methyl-1,1-dimethoxyethyl)-4H -pyran-4- one. USE:An extremely strong sex attractant for drug-store beetle. PREPARATION:For example, 2,3-dihydro-2,3-5-trimethyl-6-ethyl-4H-pyran-4-one is reacted with methyl orthoformate in the presence of both an ether solution of boron trifluoride and acetic anhydride to give a compound wherein R is methoxy in a formula I.
