PURPOSE:To improve the operability and to cope with the complicated layout of drive courses with a guiding device for unmanned carrier, by controlling the drive of the carrier after selecting a unit course program in accordance with the destination of the subject to be carried as well as the present position of the carrier. CONSTITUTION:A bar code reader 3 reads a bar code 5 showing the destination for a subject 4 set at a station 1 and to be carried. The read signal of the code 5 is supplied to a controller 10 of the station 1. Then an optical signal transmitting part 15 delivers the destination signal of the subject 4 and the position signal of an unmanned carrier 2. These two signals are received by a controller 30 of the carrier 2. The controller 30 selects the unit course programs set previously for each unit section based on said destination signal and position signal (present position). Then the controller 30 drives the carrier 2 and also performs the branching judgement at a junction point. Thus it is possible to improve the operability and also to cope well with the complicated layout of drive courses.
