PURPOSE:To set to and change to optional track pitch and to have track position accuracy not influenced by accuracy of assembling etc. by making position detection using a magnetic medium that can form a magnetization pattern for positioning by a composite magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A composite magnetic head 6 consisting of a magnetic path constituted of at least a member of high magnetic permeability 11, a flux answering element 14 and a gap 12, and a winding 13 that surrounds the magnetic path and a magnetic medium 2 that can record and reproduce by the composite magnetic head 6 are provided, and track position is determined by detecting a magnetization pattern on the magnetic medium 2. The magnetization pattern can be formed at any position of the magnetic medium. Accordingly, by constituting to make the position of inversion of magnetization in on-track state of the magnetic head 6, and detecting the position by a detecting head and stopping movement of the magnetic head 6, positioning can be made at optional track density. As it is enough to invert magnetization of the magnetic medium 2 when the magnetic head 6 become the state of on-track accurately, positioning can be made without influenced by accuracy of assembling of each unit. |
