PURPOSE:To remove the necessity of a mechanical operation in a measurement and enable the measurement to be conducted even in a condition wherein a voltage is applied by so fixing a voltage sensor to the inner surface of a grounded metallic container as to surround an insulator to be measured. CONSTITUTION:A grounded metallic container 2 accommodating a high voltage conductor 1 is provided with an insulating spacer 3. Voltage sensors 10 are provided with a plurality of electodes 11 on the inner surface of the sensor 10. By measuring the potential of the electrodes 11 by a electrostatic potentiometer, the quantity of the stored electric charge in the spacer 3 and positions wherein the electric charge is stored can be obtained by a numerical calculus. On the other hand, since the sensors 10 are fixed to the inner wall surface of the container 2, the effect of an electrostatic probe made approach to the spacer 3 on a measuring system can be neglected. Since a plurality of the sensors 10 are provided, necessary data can be obtained only by electrically measuring the output of the sensors 10 without the necessity of a mechanical operation. Further, since the sensors 10 are provided on the side of the container 2, a measurement can be conducted even in the state of voltage application.
