PURPOSE:To improve the working efficiency of a voice input KANA(Japanese syllabary)/KANJI(Chinese characters) converter, by storing the deciding result of an input voice in a register if said result is equal to a monosyllable and performing the KANA/KANJI conversion of both the character strings and words stored in the register when the deciding result is equal to a word. CONSTITUTION:If the result set from a deciding part 6 is equal to a monosyllable, this result is stored in a register 7 to wait for input of the next voice. While KANA/KANJI conversion is carried out with respect to the monosyllable character strings if stored previously in the register 7 in case the result of the part 6 is equal to a word. Then the words sent from the part 6 are subjected to KANA/KANJI conversion. Furthermore, a punctuation deciding part 10 is provided to decide whether or not the punctuation is set before and after the relevant word according to the type of the word. If the punctuation is needed, the words are added to the character string stored in the register 7 in the form of a character string. Then the KANA/KANJI conversion is carried out. The part 10 can perform its deciding actions on the basis of a word having small length or those parts easy to form prefixes and suffixes since the registered words are previously known.
