A neutral size for paper having less than 10% content of loading material comprises an aqueous dispersion of a hydrophobic cellulose-reactive sizing agent having a particle size of from 1 to 100 mu m. The sizing agent may be an alkyl ketene dimer, a dicarboxyl acid anhydride, carbamoyl chloride or an organic isocyanate.
