PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of flicker or the deterioration in the characteristics of a liquid crystal panel and to attain half-tone display by forming a display memory, a property memory, a frame counter, a line counter, a display control circuit, and so on. CONSTITUTION:A display address 8 is outputted from a display address generating circuit 1 and supplied to a display memory 10 and a property memory 11. On the other hand, a frame pulse signal 18 and a line pulse signal 19 are outputted from a timing signal generating circuit 13 and supplied to a liquid crystal display panel 7. In addition, the signal is supplied to the frame counter 14 and the signal 19 is supplied to the line counter 15. The count values of the counters 14, 15 are supplied to a display control circuit 16, and when a signal 20 from the memory 11 is turned to 'H', a line number is specified and a display inhibition signal 21 is outputted from display data 9. Consequently, a gate circuit 17 is turned off and the data 9 of the specified line are not supplied to the panel 7. The line of the data interrupted by the circuit 17 is different in each frame, so that a specified character is displayed as half-tone.
