The drinks vending machine consists essentially of an empties magazine (10) which can be fed with empty bottles (18) via an input chamber (12), a conveying device (14) and a fall shaft (16), and of a drinks-bottle magazine (20) which is arranged at a distance from the said empties magazine (10) and which can be connected to a bottle ejector (26) via a further fall shaft (22) and a pivoting and conveying arm (24). The empties magazine (10) is arranged in a housing part (30) which has a closable housing orifice (13) leading to the input chamber (12), whilst the drinks-bottle magazine (20) is arranged in a housing part (34) which is connected to the first housing part (30) via a conduit shaft (32) and which has a closable housing orifice (27) in the region of the bottle ejector (26). Furthermore, a payment and selection device (60) and a device for sensing the empty bottles are located in the first housing part (30). The sum of money to be paid is determined in an evaluation device, a bottle deposit being allowed for or not, depending on the presence of empties. Moreover, incorrect inputs in the region of the payment and selection device, on the one hand, and of the empties input, on the other hand, are detected by the evaluation device and are communicated in clear text on a display.
