PURPOSE:To reduce the amounts of impact and rocking of a ship when being brought alongside a quay by a method in which an input unit, a measurer for environmental conditions, an arithmetic unit, and a pressure regulator are provided, and on the basis of data on the conditions of a ship and environmental conditions, the internal air pressure of a pneumatic type fender device is adjusted. CONSTITUTION:Information from an input unit 5 receiving various conditions when a ship comes alongside a quay (the length, type, width, and draft of a ship, etc.) is put in an arithmetic unit 6, where effective quay contacting energy is calculated to obtain an optimal primary internal pressure. The air pressure of a pneumatic type fender 1 is properly regulated according to the difference between a measured value and a calculated value by means of a pressure regulator 4 having air supply and discharge valves 8 and 9 leading to a compressor 7. Even when a small-size ship comes into contact with a large-size ship berth, the impact encountered when being touched by the quay can be lessened, and the amount of rocking of the ship during the mooring period can also be reduced.
