PRODUCTION OF INDIUM (III) OXIDE

PURPOSE:To produce monodisperse spherical In2O3 by adding LiClO4 or NaClO4 of the specified amount to an aq. soln. contg. In salt and electrolyzing the mixture to precipitate indium hydroxide and sintering it. CONSTITUTION:LiClO4 or NaClO4 is added to an aq. soln. of indium salt such as indium chloride and indium sulfate so that it becomes about 0.1mol/dm<3> concn. and the mixture is regulated to about 2.30pH and <=0.05mol/dm<3> In ion concn. Separately an aq. soln. having 0.1mol/dm<3> LiClO4 concn. is prepared and the above-mentioned two solns. are joined by a glass tube to form a bridge. The electrodes made of platinum are inserted into both solns. and the electrode inserted into the soln. contg. In ion is made to a cathode and electrolysis is performed in <=5mA electrolyzing current. After precipitating hydrated indium hydroxide having a form of In2O3.xH2O and separating the precipitate from the soln., by a centrifugal separator it is sintered at 550 deg.C for 3hr.
