A sealing arrangement for sealing e.g. the spindle 11 of a valve 13 comprises a tapered bushing 18 of nylon or P.T.F.E. reinforced with a filler and having a flange 17 for sealing contact with a housing 12, a follower 19 being urged into contact with the bushing by a spring means 21. The tapered bushing 18 may be reinforced with stainless steel, slate, asbestos, glass or silica in powder form; the reinforcement need not be in the flange 17. The spring means may be a number of wavy washers, as shown, or Belleville type springs. A metal washer 26 is located between a cap 26 and the flange 17 of the bushing. An abutment 31 is formed on the handle and is arranged to contact a stop on the cap 23 in order to limit the rotation of the spindle.</p> |
