PURPOSE:To obtain a photosensitive material spectrally sensitized with a fog- free spectral sensitizer by incorporating a dye having a specified chemical structure as at least one fundamental ring in at least one of silver halide emulsion layers. CONSTITUTION:The novel fog-free dye has a 6-chlorobenzoxazolium salt as at least one fundamental ring, typified by ones having a 6- chlorobenzoxazolylidene ring or 6-chlorobenzoxazolium ring represented by formula I or II in which each of R1 and R2 and R4 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; R3 is a quaternized substituent, Y<-> is a counter ion; and p is an integer of >=0. The use of this dye permits the photosensitive material to be appropriate in the region spectrally sensitized with the dye, good in sensitization effect, high in sensitivity, and prevented from deterioration of sensitivity during storage in a raw state even at the time of using in combination with other additives. |
