With this circuit, the program which is processed by the microprocessor must be structured so that on every pass of the program at least one test signal is output. Each test signal resets a time function element (2, 14), which outputs a reset signal to the microprocessor (1) when it expires. The time function element is in the form of an RC element (2, 14). The base of a transistor (8) is connected via the RC element (2, 14) with a voltage source (U2). The capacitor (2) of the RC element (2, 14) is discharged whenever a test signal is produced. The transistor (8) releases the microprocessor (1) when it is triggered. The time constant of the RC element (2, 14) is such that no reset signal occurs if the interval between two test signals is normal. <IMAGE>
