Method of evacuating vacuum systems having a zeolite packing

To evacuate a vacuum system having a zeolite packing, the zeolite packing is first heated and adjusted to a residual water loading between 7 and 0.5 % by weight. The zeolite packing is then evacuated in this state in the vacuum system under the previously prevailing water vapour partial pressure. In this case, water vapour on the zeolite is also removed by suction. The residual water loading decreases as a result. The heat of desorption necessary for this originates from the sensible heat of the hot zeolite packing. The water vapour flowing off entrains all the gases situated in the vacuum. The vacuum system is sealed to be air-tight under reduced pressure.
