<p>PURPOSE:To improve durability of a switching means and to improve starting properties of an engine, by a method wherein a glow plug situated in the combustion chamber of an engine is heated to a value between a low and an upper limit temperature set value, and during cranking, the lower limit temperature set value is reduced. CONSTITUTION:At a point of time when, during cranking of a starter motor, an energizing time of a current flowing to a glow plug 10 through a main glow plug relay 14 is reduced to lower than a given time, a lower limit temperature set value is decreased. As a result, compared with a time when the lower limit temperature set value is not decreased, a time in which the main glow plug relay 14 is brought into an ON-state is increased. Thus, the frequency of the opening and closing motion of the main glow plug 14 is decreased, production of intermittent noise of the relay is decreased, and resistance to wear and durability are improved. Meanwhile, since a time of energization to the glow plug 10 is decreased, durability of the glow plug 10 is improved, and a current flowing to a starter motor is increased to improve starting properties.</p> |
