MELT REDUCTION STEEL MAKING METHOD

PURPOSE:To reduce iron ore with good thermal efficiency and to decrease the erosion of refractories in an oxygen top blown converter in the stage of producing a molten iron from the iron ore with said converter by blowing oxygen from plural nozzles provided near the molten iron surface in the converter and splashing the molten slag and molten iron toward the fine point direction of an oxygen lance. CONSTITUTION:The molten iron 2 is put into the converter 1 provided with the oxygen top blowing lance 3 and gaseous O2 is blown from the lance 3 onto the bath surface 2a thereof; at the same time, the iron ore and coal as a reducing agent thereof are continuously thrown into the converter to reduce the iron ore and to produce the molten iron. Gaseous O2 is blown from the plural nozzles 4a-4n provided radially neat the molten iron bath surface 2a and part of the molten slag and molten iron are made into liquid drops which are splashed toward the fire point 3a of the lance 3. On the other hand, the gaseous CO formed by the decarburization reaction of the molten iron 2 is burned by the gaseous O2 from the lance 3 in a secondary combustion zone 6 and the heat thereof is absorbed into the molten iron 2 through the blown liquid drops of the molten slag and molten iron. The iron ore is thus reduced with good thermal efficiency with the smaller amt. of the coal to be used. The erosion of the refractories in the furnace by the high-temp. exhaust gas is decreased.
