This invention relates to a process for resolving (+/-)-cis-1-ethyl-1,3,4,9-tetrahydro-4-(phenylmethyl)pyrano[3,4-b]indo le-1-acetic acid (pemedolac) usinig brucine to obtain the corresponding (1S,4R)-eutomer. Said eutomer is useful as an analgesic.
