PURPOSE:To reduce the current consumption of a recording amplifier and reduce the power consumption at the time of recording and to reduce the size of an amplifier output element by adding a capacitor to a head in parallel at any time regardless of whether a device is in recording or reproducing mode. CONSTITUTION:The output of the recording amplifier 1 to which a recording input is supplied is inputted to a magnetic head 6 and the output of a reproducing amplifier 2 which inputs a reproducing input is inputted to a resistance 7 for recording current measurement which is connected in series with the head. Further, a capacitor 5 is connected in parallel to the series circuit of the head 6 and resistance 7; and a switch 3 which is turned on in recording and off in reproduction is provided on the side of the amplifier 1 and the other terminal is grounded. Similarly, a switch 4 which is turned off during reproduction and on during recording is provided on the side of the amplifier 2 and the other is grounded. Then, the switch 4 is grounded during recording to connect the capacitor 5 to the output part of the amplifier 1 in parallel to the head 6 and the switch 3 is grounded during reproduction to connect the capacitor 5 to the input terminal of the amplifier 2 in parallel to the head 6, thereby compensating frequency characteristics of a reproducing signal.
