PURPOSE:To improve resistance to water, heat, solvents and blocking, and wettability, by applying an ionizing radiation curing water-soluble high-molecular material to the surface of a plastic film and irradiating the coated surface of the film with an ionizing radiation. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a plastic film is coated with an ionizing radiation curing water-soluble high-molecular material and irradiated with an ionizing radiation. Particularly preferred examples of the water-soluble high-molecular material are natural or synthetic high-molecular compds. obtd. by reacting acrylamide or its derivative with a (di)-aldehyde in the presence of a catalyst to thereby introduce a radiation-reactive functional group of the formula (wherein R is H or an alkyl) into the side chain of the product. Other examples of the water-soluble material are polyvinyl alcohols having functional groups such as acetoacetyl, carboxyl, (meth)acryloyl or formal groups.
