PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance while suppressing the formation of perfluoroalkylethylene, by the catalytic reaction of a fluoroalkyl halide with dialkyl sulfoxide in the presence of water or an alkanol. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula III can be produced by reacting a fluoroalkyl halide of formula I (Rf is 1-23C perfluoroalkyl; X is Br or I) with a dialkyl sulfoxide of formula II (R<1> and R<2> are 1-3C alkyl) in the presence of water, 1-5C alkanol or alkane polyol. The reaction is carried out at 120-150 deg.C while supplying oxygen or an inert gas (e.g. N2, He, etc.) to the reaction system. The molar ratio of the compound of formula I to water or alkanol, etc., is 1 to 1.5-25 and that of the compound of formula I to the compound of formula II is preferably 1 to 5-20.
