PURPOSE:To improve detection sensitivity of daughter ions by setting a main slit and collector slit of the 1st mass spectrometric instrument at the conditions under which the mass spectrum waveform substantialloy separable by the objective peak is obtained, then setting the slit widths double-fold. CONSTITUTION:The initial values such an intensities of an electric field 3 and magnetic field 4 and the slit widths S0, S1 of the slits 2, 5 are set to meet the peak top of the specific mass number m1 in a sample to be subjected to mass spectrometry with an MASS1 (double focusing mass spectrometric instrument) to a data processor 10 and the data for microweeping of the magnetic field 4 is inputted via a D/A converter 15 to a magnetic field power source 23, by which the magnetic field is executed to microsweeping. As a result, the mass spectrum signal obtd. from a detector 20 is read in via an A/D converter 12 and the mass spectrum is displayed 19 by using such data. The present resolving power is discriminated according to the display 19 and the desired resolving power is set and inputted so as to obtain the perfect sepn. at the peak of the mass number m1. The widths S0, S1 of the slits 2, 5 are magnified double-fold according to the set data. The 2nd MASS2 is in succession swept and the daughter ions are measured.
