PURPOSE:To suppress the number of drive sources for stopping the rotation of a type wheel to the min., by providing a magnetic coil including a selection member in a shakable manner and selectively and magnetically coupling the selection member and a drive plate to shake the selection member. CONSTITUTION:A current is supplied to an electromagnetic coil 56 when the leading end parts 51, 52 of engaging pawls 49, 50 are positioned between tooth parts 29, 30 different in a phase of selection ratchets 25, 26 corresponding to the type positions of type wheels 13, 14 to be selected and, for example, the leading end part 51 is engaged between specific tooth parts 29 to select a type and, subsequently, the supply of a current is cut off to rotate all of the other type wheels. For example, when the leading end part 52 of the engaging pawl 50 is positioned between tooth parts 30 corresponding to the type position to be selected of the selection ratchet 26, a current is again supplied to the electromagnetic coil 56 to select a desired type. Thereafter, the supply of a current is cut off and, by repeating the same operation, all of types can be selected by only one electromagnetic coil 56. Therefore, the number of high cost drive parts can be reduced and cost can be reduced.
