Process for mechanical, thermal and chemical treatments of metal articles, especially of steel articles, according to which the physical characteristics of the said metals are exploited in the temperature range which corresponds to their allotropic transformation, that is to say the transition from the alpha phase to the gamma phase, by creating a structural instability and managing its duration, characterised in that the energy flow transmitted or lost by the said article in the said transformation range is controlled by change in the form of wave trains, in that the initial temperature and the final temperature of this allotropic transformation is determined accurately and in that the density of the transferred energy flow is managed either to maintain the article between the initial and final temperatures or to compensate only for the heat losses, or to pass directly below and above the initial and final temperatures respectively.
