PURPOSE:To eliminate the looseness of an auxiliary starting electrode so as to stabilize the lighting of a flash discharge tube by fixing the auxiliary starting electrode provided on the outer wall surface of the glass envelope of the flash discharge tube with a pair of metal plates used for holding of the glass envelope and also for fixing of the auxiliary starting electrode. CONSTITUTION:A flash discharge tube is constructed by sealing a pair of electrodes 2, 3 on the both ends of a glass envelope 1 and providing an auxiliary starting electrode 4 on the outer wall surface of the said envelope. And a pair of metal plates 11, 12 are provided on the both ends of the outer surface of the glass envelope 1, and the both ends of the auxiliary starting electrode 4 provided along the outer surface of the glass envelope 1 are wound and fixed to the metal plates 11, 12 respectively. Further the metal plates 11, 12 are attached to an optical device with bolts 13-16. Therefore, the fixing of the auxiliary starting electrode and the glass envelope 1 can be performed with the metal plates 11, 12 simultaneously, so that the auxiliary starting electrode can be always sholded surely without looseness to maintain stable lighting.
