Process for regulating the virtually instantaneous heating power supplied to a cooker heating body (1) and for avoiding that the full power is applied to the heating body in practice at the time of switching on and is then cut off. This is achieved by using a regulating element (11) to control a clock (21), the output pulse width of which (A21) can be modified to control a power switch (19) either for phase control of the AC mains voltage supplied (5) or to determine the lengths of switched-off AC voltage or current packets in relation to the switch-off time.
