Process for producing a multimaterial monofilament strand from thermoplastic material, a central core strand of plastic being produced and surrounded by a melted sheath. Furthermore, stretching is carried out. The core strand of plastic is surrounded as a melted core stream of plastic by a melted sheathing stream. The two streams of plastic are fed in a coextrusion channel, the length of which is a multiple of the diameter of the united streams of plastic, to a coextrusion outlet die. The solidified multimaterial strand of plastic is transformed by stretching to form the multimaterial monofilament strand. An apparatus for carrying out the process is also specified.
