PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for heat- resistant and high-strength fibers simply, by reacting an iodated diphenyl ether which is inexpensive and can be readily synthesized as a raw material with carbon monoxide and an aromatic alcohol in the presence of a basic substance and a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An iodated diphenyl ether or a brominated diphenyl ether is used as a raw material and reacted with carbon monoxide and an aromatic alcohol (e.g. benzyl alcohol or phenol) in the presence of both a basic substance such as aliphatic amine, alkali metallic alcoholate, etc., and a nickel, cobalt or iron compound catalyst preferably at 100 deg.C-180 deg.C at 1-100kg/cm<2> gauge pressure to give the titled compound. The raw material, for example, the iodated diphenyl ether can be readily synthesized by reacting diphenyl ether with iodine in the presence of nitric acid. |
