PURPOSE:To obtain a wet friction material which has a small modulus of elasticity and excellent heat resistance and wear resistance and can withstand a high load, by bonding a metallic fiber with an inorg. polymer binder so as to have a particular volume of communicating pores. CONSTITUTION:Felt or the like made of a metallic fiber having a fiber diameter of 4-60mum (e.g., stainless steel fiber) is immersed in a dilute solution of 5-60vol% (based on friction material) inorg. polymer binder having heat resistance (e.g., silicone polymer) and heat-molded under pressure so as to have 30-85vol% communicating pores, thereby obtaining a heat-resistant wet friction material having a modulus of elasticity of 5-60kg/mm<2>.
