PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high-strength fibers, having improved spinning property and containing uniformly distributed ultrafine silica, by using a solution prepared by adding a specific alkyl silicate hydrolyzate to an aqueous solution of basic aluminum chloride as a spinning solution. CONSTITUTION:An alkyl silicate hydrolyzate having 200-700 weight-average molecular weight is first added to an aqueous solution of basic aluminum chloride to give 2/98-30/70 ratio (SiO2/Al2O3) after firing to prepare a spinning solution, which is then dry spun to give fibers. The resultant fibers are fired, preferably at 800-1,500 deg.C firing temperature to afford the aimed fibers. The above-mentioned alkyl silicate hydrolyzate is obtained by adding an equal amount of water to an alkyl silicate and reacting both in the presence of monochloroacetic acid as a catalyst at 20 deg.C for 40min. |
