PURPOSE:To eliminate a need for a large-capacity picture memory in case of copying a largest-size A3(JIS)-picture by writing the attributes (binary, intermediate-gradation, inverted, blanking) of a picture in an attribute RAM in the unit of prescribed area, and editing the picture in accordance with the content of the attribute RAM at the time of outputting. CONSTITUTION:A picture is divided into prescribed areas, and the attribute of each area is written in the attribute RAM 52. The attribute data to be writ ten in the attribute RAM consists of the four bits of d3, d2, d1, and d0. The d0 specifies two design patterns, d1 does either binary processing or dither processing, d2 does white-and-black inversion, and d3 specifies blanking. A dither ROM 54 generates two threshold values of dither pattern '1' of '2' in accor dance with the value of d0. A selector 56 transfers either a data from the ROM 54 or a binary threshold information to a comparator circuit 48 in accordance with the d1. The circuit 48 compares a picture data with the threshold value from the selector 56, and transmits the result to a selective output circuit 58. In case when the d3 is '1', a white-data is transferred. The circuit 58 outputs either an inverted data or not-inverted data according to the d2 in synchroniza tion with a valid picture signal.
