摘要 PURPOSE:To decrease a crosstalk without using a high driving voltage by providing a transparent electrode on each opposed surface of two opposed transparent substrates, interposing a ferroelectric liquid crystal layer between said each transparent electrode, and applying a voltage between each transparent electrode. CONSTITUTION:It is supposed that a linear polarized light beam L for executing a vibration (code Ert. angle) in the vertical direction is made incident on the incident surface, this light beam L being arranged to be incident obliquely from the right upper part, with an angle THETAt equal to 45 deg.. Subsequently, in case the electric field E is applied downward in a short time, the refracitive index of the ferroelectric liquid crystal layer 14 goes to a normal light refractive index n0, the light beam L is brought to a total reflection, and this state is maintained. In both cases, a long axis of a liquid crystal molecule is always vertical in the direction of the electric field, and a molecular luminous intense distribution always goes to parallel to transparent electrodes 12a, 12b.
