In a lip seal ring with a sealing lip composed of polytetrafluoroethylene or a material of a related type, the sealing lip is pressed onto the shaft or rod by a cylindrical compression spring which is pushed on and the turns of which are preferably spaced apart. The use of the cylindrical compression spring renders the sealing lip resilient and it is possible to achieve the same sealing effect while subjecting the sealing lip to a relatively low specific surface pressure so that troublesome permanent deformation of the material of the sealing lip, which is subjected to plastic flow, are largely avoided and the lip sealing ring remains effective for a longer period. <IMAGE>
