The invention relates to compounds of the formula <IMAGE> and to the use of compounds of the formula <IMAGE> where, in formula (II), the radical containing the phosphorus atom is either in the 2-position on the benzo(b)furan skeleton (in which case A, B and C are in each case a substituent in the 3-, 4-, 5-, 6- or 7-position), or, as in formula (I), in the 3-position on the benzo(b)furan skeleton (in which case, and in formula (I), A, B and C are in each case a substituent in the 2-, 4-, 5-, 6- or 7-position), and A, B, C, W, R<1> and R<2> in formulae (I) and (II) in each case have the meanings given in the description, as herbicidal active substances.
