A brake pressure control unit for a pressure medium-operable vehicle brake system has a housing (2), in which at least one control piston (10) carrying a valve closing element is arranged so that the piston is axially displaceable, which piston can be acted upon in one direction by the pressure in an outlet chamber or by the reduced pressure and in the opposite direction by the pressure in an inlet chamber or the unreduced pressure and by a load-dependent drive spring force (FF1) by means of a transmission lever (6). In order to reduce brake pressure losses resulting from the difference between reference and actual curves, it is proposed that a further piston (32) be provided, which rests on the transmission lever (6), in order to apply a predetermined force to the transmission lever (6) directed counter to the driving spring force, and that a force, acting in the same direction as the driving spring force and varying as a function of the pressure in the inlet chamber or of the unreduced inlet pressure, be capable of application to the further piston (32). <IMAGE>
