PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of photoelectric conversion, accuracy and productivity by inserting an optical fiber into a ferrule consisting of a ceramic material and fitting a light emitting element to the end surface of the ferrule arranged on the opening and side of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The light emitting/receiving element 3 is fitted to the end surface of the ferrule 1 inserting the optical fiber F into a thin hole formed on its central part and fixing the optical fiber F. When the optical communication module is used as a light emitting source, the light emitting element 3 starts to emit light by an electrical signal sent through lead wires 4, 4'. The emitted light is sent to an optical fiber of a connector connected to the ferrule 1 through an optical fiber F inserted into a large diameter hole 1b. When the module is used as a light receiving source, light guided through the optical fiber F inserted into the ferrule 1 and projected from the end part of the optical fiber F is converted into an electrical signal by the light receiving element 3, and can be taken out from the lead wires 4, 4'. In this way, the effect of photoelectric conversion, accuracy and productivity are improved. |
