PURPOSE:To constantly obtain a sharp two-color recording image with a simple construction, by a method wherein the travel speed of a thermal head is varied according to the recording tone, the value of applied voltage to the thermal head is varied according to the travel speed, and heating elements are mounted on the end portion side of the thermal head offset to the back of a thermal transfer material feeding direction. CONSTITUTION:The mounting position of a heater portion 7b is offset in the width's direction of a thermal head 17, which enables a peeling time to be varied as the speed is varied. With the assignment from an input means either a second ink layer 23 in a thermal transfer material 19 is transferred alone or together with a first ink layer 22, the rotating speed of a shift pulse motor is controlled. With the period of time from a thermal energy application to a substrate separation is short, the voltage supplied to the thermal head 17 and the heater portion 17b is made high: when it is long, the voltage supplied to the heater 17b is set low by keeping two sets of tables for each the pulse rate of a pulse motor and the applied voltage to the heater portion 17b stored in a ROM in a central processing unit. |
