PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fibers capable of freely and stably controlling the cross-sectional area without cracking along the fiber axis direction, by disturbing the flow caused when flowing in pitch just above a capillary of nozzle in melt spinning. CONSTITUTION:Mesophase-containing pitch is initially melt spun. In the process, the flow produced in flowing in the above-mentioned pitch is disturbed just above a capillary 2 of a nozzle 2. The resultant pitch fibers are subsequently infusibilized by a well-known method, e.g. air oxidation, etc. and the infusibilized fibers are heat-treated, carbonized or graphitized to provide the aimed fibers. In order to the flow of the pitch just above the capillary, an apparatus constructed to extrude the pitch 7 above the capillary 2 from the nozzle 2 while stirring with a stirring rod 8 is used.
