PURPOSE:To easily manufacture a member having high surface stability by heating the whole or a part of the surface of a formed member made of a metal having a high m.p. to melt it up to a certain depth. CONSTITUTION:The whole or a part of the surface of a formed member made of a metal having a high m.p. or an alloy thereof is heated to melt it up to a depth of 0.1mm-1/2 of the thickness of the part. The melting is preferably carried out by electron bombardment heating in a high vacuum of 10<-3>Torr. The residual stress in the member along the interface between the melted and unmelted parts can be relieved by heat treating the member at a temp. below the m.p. By this method, a member contg. a reduced amount of impurities having high vapor pressure and releasing little gas by heating during use is obtd.
