PURPOSE:To prevent oxidation of a steel strip, by burning a burner at a specified air ratio and measuring fluctuation widths in burning temp. of high temp. combustion gas in contact with the steel strip to feed back control combustion system. CONSTITUTION:The burner 1 is burnt at <=1.0 air ratio, and the steel strip W is arranged so that it arrives on the situation on the way to combustion of a flame 2. A temp. probe 3 is arranged at the vicinity of the strip W and at center of the flame 2. Temp. signal detected by the probe 3 is inputted to a computing element 6 through an amplifier 4 and an analyzer 5. The computing element 6 operates fluctuation width in combustion temp. in unit time and displays it on a displaying plate 7, the fluctuation width is fed back to a combustion control system 8, and air ratio and combustion quantity are varied so that fluctuation width value is regulated to 12-45 deg. range. By the method, reduction heating performance can be maintained to the optimum and energy saving can be aimed.
