PURPOSE:To form the tungsten oxide thin film by depositing tungsten oxide on a cathode side by electrodepositing from a solution obtd. by mixing tungsten or its compd. and hydrogen peroxide and water. CONSTITUTION:The tungstate such as sodium tungstate (Na2WO4) is transformed into a sort of polyacid which is estimated to be H3(H3W6O21) by treating the prescribed salt with a cation ion exchange resin. The solution obtd. by treating the prescribed salt with the ion exchange resin does not produce a precipitation by adding a small amount of an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide to it. When the additional amount of hydrogen peroxide is appropriate, a blue colored coating film produces on the cathode electrode by dipping a pair of the electrodes to the prescribed solution followed by effecting an electrolysis. Thus, the titled film can be formed by the simple method as mentioned above.
