PURPOSE:To enable the automation of measurement, analysis or the like of information on sampling and grain size of a sample from a production system handling a powdery and granular material by analyzing information on particles from an optical section via a powdery and granular material data analysis section and a control system. CONSTITUTION:A sampling means 3 samples a specified amount of a powdery and granular material as sample to be conveyed through said material conveying line 1 and it is sent to a conveying means 4 to discharge. The means 4 sends the sample to the measuring position set by an optical section 5. Under such a condition, for example, the optical section 5 irradiates a the sample with laser light to obtain a diffraction image thereof while optical information on the size of particles is collected and converted into an electrical signal to be fed to a powdery and granular material data analysis section 6, which analyzes the electrical signal pertaining to the particle size based on a control program read from a control section 7 to calculate the particle size, size distribution, cumulative value and the like. As such a series of operations are performed automatically, the sampling, measurement and the like of the sample is automated in a through process thereby achieving a higher operability, quickness and certainty.
