The method comprises applying a thin uniform layer of a soln. on a clean surface of the optical component. The soln. comprises partially hydrolised tri-vinyl (lower alkoxy) silane in a volatile organic soln. which can be mixed with water, in which the tri-vinyl (lower alkoxy) silane is present in an amt. 25 to 75 % wt. The component is covered kept in a highly humid environment at a temp. 25-80 deg. C. The covering layer is then dehydrated at high temp.
